Janina Kraupe was born on 27 January 1921 in Sosnowiec. In 1938 she took up studies at The Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow under the supervision of professor Paweł Dadlez and K. Sichulski. Next in the period 1940-1942 she studied under Prof. F. Pautsch in the Kunstgewerbeschule. After the end of WW II, she resumed her studies at The Academy of Fine Arts. In the period 1945-47 she was a student at Prof Eugeniusz Eibisch’s studio and next at Prof. Wacław Taranczewski workshop (monumental painting). In the years1945-48 she studied graphic arts at the studios Prof. Andrzej Jurkiewicz and Prof. Konrad Srzednicki, graduated in 1948, and subsequently receiving her diploma at easel painting in 1955. Since 1948 taught easel and monumental painting at The Cracow Academy of Fine Arts. She was one of the initiator T. Kantor’s Underground Theatre. She belonged to Young Artists Group, at present she’s a member of the II Cracow Group. She’s professor ( at present retired) at the motherly Academy. She’s active in painting and prints.
